  • Real-time event detection and alerting
  • A web portal for remote device administration
  • Support for subscriptions, inventory, and OTA firmware updates

Project Overview

WaveLink Secure is a connected safety system designed to monitor the water around docks for dangerous electrical current. When a hazard is detected, the system triggers an audible and visual alert on-site and sends a real-time notification to the user’s phone.

The product combines hardware, cloud infrastructure, and mobile software to make dock safety easier to monitor from anywhere.

The Problem

Water near docks can become dangerous when electrical current is present, and that risk isn’t always visible in real time. In the United States, accidental drowning remains one of the leading causes of unintentional injury death, and boating, dock, and waterfront environments add another layer of risk when electrical hazards are introduced.

The danger can be surprisingly easy to create — something as simple as a rubbed wire on a boat lift, damaged equipment, or a hidden fault in dock wiring can put current into the water without being immediately obvious. Traditional safety approaches can leave users with limited awareness unless they are physically on-site, which means the problem may go unnoticed until conditions have already become dangerous.

WaveLink needed a system that could continuously monitor conditions, detect dangerous events quickly, and alert people immediately whether they were at the dock or away from it. The goal was to create a reliable layer of visibility and response for a safety issue that is often invisible until it becomes urgent.

The Solution

  • Native mobile apps for monitoring and alerts
We designed and built native iOS and Android apps that allowed users to monitor their system status, receive safety notifications, and stay informed about activity even when they were away from the dock.

  • A scalable cloud system for collecting device data
Apptoo created the cloud infrastructure responsible for receiving and organizing a high volume of measurements from WaveLink Hub IoT devices, making it possible to store, review, and analyze data over time.

  • Real-time event detection and alerting
The platform was engineered to identify dangerous electrical events as they happened and immediately trigger both on-site and mobile alerts, helping users respond quickly to potential safety issues.

  • A web portal for remote device administration
We built a centralized web portal that gave the team the ability to manage WaveLink devices remotely, check status information, and handle operational tasks without needing to be physically present at each installation.

  • Support for subscriptions, inventory, and OTA firmware updates
The system also included operational tools for managing checkouts and subscriptions through Stripe, tracking inventory, and pushing over-the-air firmware updates to devices in the field as the product evolved.

Our Approach

Building a reliable system around real-time safety

Because the platform depends on continuous monitoring, the architecture had to be stable, responsive, and built to handle frequent measurements at scale. Apptoo designed the cloud system to collect device data, store historical records, detect dangerous events, and relay alerts without introducing unnecessary complexity.

We also built the administrative side of the product so the team could manage devices, inventory, firmware updates, and status checks through a centralized web portal.

Key Outcomes

WaveLink grew from an early-stage concept into a live system supporting real users and scaled device deployment.

Notable outcomes included:

  • A cloud system handling high-volume daily measurements
  • Remote monitoring and alerting for dock safety events
  • Administrative tooling for firmware, inventory, and device status
  • Growth from zero to 120+ hubs
  • Subscription and checkout support via Stripe
